Habitat: tropical, subtropical, warm temperate.

TaxonomyIn the PPG1 classification Dicksoniaceae is a member of the order Cyatheales.
Larger tree ferns in the genus Cibotium were formerly included in Dicksoniaceae, but are now segregated as the family Cibotiaceae.
Plant theory In the Plant theory Dicksoniaceae is a member of the order Cyatheales. It is placed tentatively in Subphase 6. This fits the inner decay of their trunk while alive.
BotanyFerns; terrestrial, some epiphytes; with long, tapering hairs composed of cells arranged end to end, unlike Cyatheaceae.
Stem: very short trunks, some can reach several metres in height.
Leaves: large pinnate fronds, 1 to 4 m long; leaf margin does not form part of an indusium.
