IntroductionClades: Polypodianae; Pteridophyta; Plants.
Members: 53 genera; 1211 species.
TaxonomyThe PPG1 classification places Pteridales and the identical Pteridineae are placed in the leptosporangiate ferns, also named Polypodiales. Related to Pteridales are Dennstaedtiaceae and a monophyletic clade around Lindsaeaceae, with mono generic families Saccolomataceae, Cystodiaceae and Lonchitidaceae.
Plant theoryIn the Plant theory Pteridales is made the only Order in Pterididae. Lindsaeaceae is included with the small families Saccolomataceae, Cystodiaceae and Lonchitidaceae, and is placed in Subphase 1 of Pteridales.
Dennstaedtiaceae is placed in Subphase 7.
Pteridaceae is split in five subfamilies and placed in Subphase 2 to Subphase 5.
