IntroductionIn the botanical classifications Hypnales is an Order in the subclass Bryidae. It is the main clade, the biggest with 40 families and more than 4000 species. This is confirmed in DNA analysis.

Botany: Central strand present/absent Pseudoparaphyllia usually present Alar cells often present. Calyptra cucullate > 4200 spp (ca. 1/3 of all mosses).
