Introduction.Hypnaceae was the biggest family in the mosses with about 150 genera. But recent phylogentic research has shown that the family is far from monophyletic.Basically it is not a family. Most genera are spread out over other families. Small part are scattered in the Order Hypnales.
As hypnales is now is has parts of Hypnacecae, some genera from varios gfamilies and a few other families
