Taxonomy
In the Apg4 classification Rutaceae is one of the main families in the Sapindales.
Plant theory
In the Plant theory this was adopted formerly. Now Sapindales is split in Rutales and Sapindales. Rutales stays in Phase 4. Sapindales is transferred to Phase 5.
The Rutaceae is split in 4 Subfamilies and placed in placed in Subphase 2, 3, 4, and 5. Aurantioideae is a monophyletic clade in Rutales. It is placed in Subphase 4.
Aurantioideae has been named in the past also Rutoideae. I formner Classification Ruta was included in Aurantioideae, but new research has shown Ruta to be in a different clade Ruteae.
