Botany: 4 genera; Hololachna, Myricaria, Reaumuria, Tamarix; dry areas of Europe, Asia and Africa; saline soils; can tolerate alkaline conditions; leaves scalelike, overlap each other along the stem, encrusted with salt secretions.
TaxonomyTamaricaceae was classified in the Violales under the Cronquist system. The Apg3 classification place them in the Caryophyllales.
