Genus: ± 20 species.
Region: Southeast Asia, eastern Himalayas.
Botany: very short-stemmed palms; leaves up to 8 m long, spiny petiole, pinnate with numerous leaflets, some have undivided leaves; fruits grow in clusters at the base of the plants, reddish-brown, scaly, snake like skin, with white pulp, one to two large inedible seeds.
