English: Tamarisk family.
Genera: 4: Hololachna, Myricaria, Reaumuria, Tamarix.
Botany: dry areas of Europe, Asia and Africa; saline soils; can tolerate alkaline conditions; leaves scalelike, overlap each other along the stem, encrusted with salt secretions.
TaxonomyTamaricaceae was classified in the Violales under the Cronquist system. The Apg3 classification place them in the Caryophyllales.
In the Plant theory Tamaricaceae is placed in the Polygonales, in Subphase 1. The salt tolerating quality is in indication for Phase1 or Phase 7.
