TaxonomyThe
Rubiaceae is the first branch in the
Gentianales in the
Apg3 classification. In the past it was often put in its own order
Rubiales.
Rubiaceae is split in 3 subfamilies:
Rubioideae,
Cinchonoideae and
Ixoroideae.
Rubiaceae is quite big with about 600 genera and 6000 species. In contrast only 3 species are well known in homeopathy: China, Coffea and Ipecacuanha.
In the
Plant theory Rubiaceae is split off from the Order
Gentianales and put in its own Order
Rubiales.
Rubiaceae is quite different form
Gentianales. They are much more sure, fitting
Phase 4, instead of the
Phase 2 quality of
Gentianales. The splitting does not affect the monophyly of both Orders.
Oleaceae is placed in
Rubiales as its theme is very similar to
Phase 4.
Oleaceae has been associated with
Gentianales and
Rubiales more often in the past by botanist like Bessey, Meechior and Reveal.
Rubiaceae is is split in its 3 Subfamilies and Coptosapelteae. Coptosapelteae is an unclear Subfamily in Apg3 is placed in
Subphase 3.
This Order Rubuiales gives rise to some problems in its classification. This is especially the case while
Rubiaceae are little known in homeopathy and on the other hand
Rubiaceae is a very big
Family.
