In the Apg3 classification Myrtales is together with Geraniales, placed in the Malvidae in the broad sense. They are just outside the core of Malvidae, as sister to them.
In the Plant theory Myrtales can be seen as Phase 1 in the Subclass Myrtidae. There is a theme of just being, a naïve expression of their own state, a lack of reflection. The placement of Vochysiaceae and Penaeaceae is tentative. It could be that Myrtaceae is better split in 2 families, one in Subphase 4 and the other in Subphase 5.Subphases1. Lythraceae: they feel an outsider, as they are from a lower class; they feel that they have to find a place in the system.
2. Onagraceae: they have to work hard for their place, the more so due to cultural classes; they have a place but have to fight for it, or get overwhelmed in it.
3. Melastomataceae: they have their place, do a lot but then feel it is too much, that they get used.
4. Myrtaceae: they feel central in the system, which gives them safety but also responsibility for it; they keep on working for the group, as the special one.
5. Vochysiaceae: they feel limited and compressed by the group, wanting to be more special; they have a place but it is unsure, they get confused what to follow, their own impulse or that of others.
6. Combretaceae: they feel part of the system but think about leaving as it does not give them enough love and respect; they feel special, lazy, in an outsider position.
7. Penaeaceae: they feel that they can lose their place in the system, or that it can collapse entirely; they feel that they will be rejected if they will not be special.IntroductionA strong theme is that of social classes. They can feel they belong to the higher classes and have a right to be served by the working class. They can feel they belong to the working class but still feel special and have the right to belong to the higher classes. The caste system in India is a good example, where the division in classes is institutionalised. Or immigrants who become the lower class in a society. It is a cultural division into lower and higher. This theme is something common to all the Malvanae and Silver series. But it is the strongest in Myrtales where we have both Iron and Silver series present.
A special form is the inequality between men and women as a cultural division. It is mostly women who have less rights, earning less, having no vote, being violated and raped without the rapist coming to trial. The women’s rights movement is a strong indication. Often these inequalities between groups in society come from religions and churches, another cultural form.
Frequently they feel not part of the group. They feel like an outsider, a stranger, who has landed in a culture they see as strange. They would like to belong to society but that is often not easy. Their sensitivity is often misunderstood. Their vision about life is strange for most people. Often their parents discount their artistic and creative talents.CultureThey often have a conflict with culture, especially in the hierarchy that is imposed. They fight the superior position of men, the patriarchy. They feel that women have, or should have equal rights compared to men. But they have the urge to fight all kinds of inequalities of a culture. They feel that everyone should be able to develop himself, should have the space and possibilities to study or be creative.
They have an artistic tendency and quality. They like beauty and want to be special. They also like to be seen as special, to be admired. In this aspect they look very much like the Silver series. They tend to fascinate others in order to get the admiration and attention of others. They can make beautiful things. And they can tell fascinating stories, sometimes real, sometimes exaggerated and sometimes even fake. It is like a fragrance that they have around them, that works a kind of spell on others. Especially when they lack the talent to be outstanding, they can try to compensate for that by making up big stories. They can radiate beauty. Their stories can have an effect like an intoxication, as a kind of poisoning, an enchanting quality, benumbing and fascinating.FamilyThey have a strong need to belong, to a family and a group. They are very impulsive in making contacts. Because of that it is often superficial, which is the opposite of what they really want. The result is that the connection gets lost again. In the family they feel like a stranger with their weird opinions and attitudes. They can be seen as a witch or a weirdo. They often have a connection with nature which lets them get treated as a witch or herb woman. Many such women would be sent to the stake to be burned in the Middle Ages.Self worthThey want to be respected and valued. They need their individuality to be recognised. They can be quite impulsive in this respect, sometimes even aggressive about it. Their feeling of having to be special can also lead to arrogance, haughtiness. This can be more so when they come from a family of higher social class, where they were raised with the feeling that they were special. Underneath can be feelings of inferiority, an arrogant inferiority.Male dominanceThe arrogance can be connected to male dominance. As a man they can feel more special. Or as a woman they can have the feeling that not enough praise and attention is going to them.InsultedThey want to be appreciated, seen as special and be given special careful attention. If they do not get it, it can be like an insult for them. They very easily feel hurt and insulted. In those cases they can be very irritated, harsh and insulting.SexualThey can have a strong sexual desire. Sexuality is very much connected to being special and beautiful. Sex can give them the feeling of being respected. At the complete opposite they can have a diminished sexual desire, especially when sex is connected with being dirty or bad. Ideas of purity, virginity and the like can block the vital aspect of sexuality. In cases of adultery they can feel extremely sullied.NervesThey are very sensitive, to smells, noises, people. Their nerves are often affected. They have a tendency to neuralgia, with shooting, electric pains, in the arms, face, teeth and legs.
