Botany: leaves opposite, entire, smooth, elliptical till lanceolate, longitudinal nerves curved towards the apex of the leaf, greyish green when dried; flowers (June and July) pinkish; taste bitter, acrid; odour none.
Content: saponins, saporubrin; saporubrinic acid.
Use: soap, foam on beer.
