TaxonomyRanunculales is the main order at the start of the
Eudicots, the Dicotyledons. In the past
Ranunculales was often associated with the Magnoliana., due to the primitive qualities of both.
To the order of the
Ranunculales also belong the small families
Circaeasteraceae with only Circaeaster,
Eupteleaceae with only Euptelea and
Lardizabalaceae with 8 genera. The
Lardizabalaceae are very similar to the
Menispermaceae.
Plant theoryIn the
Plant theory Ranunculales is the only Order in the Subclass of
Ranunculidae.
In the second version of the
Plant theory the
Ranunculaceae are split in 3 families:
Delphinoideae;
Actaeoideae;
Anemonoideae. They are placed in respectively
Subphase 1, 2 and 3. In the first version
Eupteleaceae was placed in
Subphase 1, but that was very insufficient as there was only 1 genus.
Lardizabalaceae was placed in
Subphase 2. It is a small family with only 8 genera.
