Plant theoryLycopodiodeae is split off from Lycopodiaceae in the new version of the Plant theory. It is further reduced by splitting off Diphasioideae.
Lycopodiodeae is placed in Subphase 3.
BotanyFern: clubmoss; terrestrial; growing horizontal.
Root: adventitious; emergence non-cortical.
Stem: protostelic; shoots inclinate, anisotomous, growth axis horizontal, dorsiventral; shoots anisotomous, arising vertically; stele > stem diameter; fertile shoots on leafy peduncle.
Leaves: eligulate; sporophylls paleate, evergreen; sporangial stalk absent; sporophylls peltate, deciduous; mucilage duct in sporophyll.
Reproduction: gametophyte subterrenean, germinate in the dark, e without paraphyses.
Sporangia: sporangial wall cells thin, non-lignified, sinuate.
Spore: homosporous; margins convex.
Bulbils absent.
