Botany: annual or mostly perennial herbs, little, up to 10 cm high; leaves small, simple, narrowing to base, tooth-lobed at summit; flowers showy, bright purplish-blue, yellow or white, funnel to bell-shaped, 5-lobed flowers, 2 cm wide; stamens free from the corolla and hairy throat, singly on stalks; flowering August to September; stems and leaves quickly start to reproduce in spring.
