Gentiana lutea
3-665.23.08665.23.08 Gentiana lutea, CaseWoman, 40, depressed.
She is depressed for the third time. The first period was 12 years ago when her baby was crying all the time. She was completely worn out because she wanted to do it herself, taking care for her child, being there for him. She was burned out for half a year with stomach pains. Her stomach felt tense, as if a ball was there. She tried to eat it away, but that did not help. The second period was 4 years ago after she had problems at her work and was not being taken seriously by her manager. She also had palpitations, sometimes very fast, sometimes very slow. It was worse from tension at her work, when people would talk about patients as if they were pieces of meat. It would ameliorate by sleep. The last period has lasted 2 years. She is depressed and drawn inward. Her throat has a croup? feeling, has a lump feeling. Her shoulders are drawn up creating a cramping pain in her neck and shoulders muscles, her body is tense. She has a headache, a band feeling from her forehead to her neck.
She wants to keep control and have a grip on things, keeping everything together. She has a need for space and freedom, making her own choices. She wants to be an independent person and have her own driving license.
In contrast, her mother was stuck and did not dare to leave the house. Her mother was depressed often, had given herself away for the family and moved with her father to a place she did not like. Depressed; she sat on the sofa and was lying on the bed, drinking too much alcohol and smoking a lot. The children had to do the cooking and washing. Her mother was an intelligent woman that had to marry because she was pregnant. She died from oesophageal cancer and then the last period of depression set in. She supported her mother in the hospital. After a talk with the doctors she had a breakdown; her legs could not hold her anymore, she had to vomit, had enormous diarrhoea, had to sit on the toilet holding her abdomen tight in her arms. She had enormous abdominal cramps and felt overwhelmed thinking “what is happening to me”. She felt responsible for her mother, but could not help her. It felt like a grief, a failure. Her father did not invite people for the funeral, there was no service. The children regretted that later.
Her father was working hard, long days. He was egocentric and could not be reached. He couldn’t stand noise so the children had to keep their mouths shut, had to be silent when dad was home. He was avaricious, giving only small amounts for the household, but everything had to be there when he needed it. He drank much alcohol. He was often angry and could beat the children once in a while. She was afraid of her father. Lately her father is doing worse. He does not take care himself, makes a mess of his house and wants to come and live in with her family. She has refused that because it will take too much energy from her. Her parents were opposed to her husband. When she married him she had no contact with her parents for years.
She is the second of four children. As a child she tried to be firm, not emotional. The motto was “go on, do not lament”. She always feels forced to go on till things are finished. It is a feeling of having to achieve something. She cannot sit still when something has to be done. She had little contact with her parents. She went her own way; at 17 she left home. She discovered that other families had a happy time together, that parents normally help their children to find a way in life. She never had that. When she studied to be a nurse her parents did not give her money to study. She wanted to study medicine or veterinary medicine, but she did not have money for that. She is very caring. She wants everything to go fine, but that takes all of her energy. She likes to be part of a group, a family. She likes the holidays together, she, her husband and her 2 children. They have a good time and can talk to each other. She does not like to hold her children back, she wants them to grow and go on in life. She is happily married. She wants to control things herself, she sees it difficult to give something out of hand. This can also make her angry, especially when her children make a mess of things. In the past she could have anger with her mother.
As a child she had bronchitis, with pain in her chest and throat, < cough.
