A three-year-old girl often complains of stomach pain, which causes a lot of discomfort. It has been almost a year, and otherwise, she is rarely sick. Her parents had her tested, revealing allergies to cow's milk and sugar, so they switched to goat's milk and probiotics. Yet, she often has red buttocks and vagina. After defecation, she indicates 'It hurts so much.' With food, there are more and more things she refuses; due to the stomach pain, she becomes quieter and withdrawn. The abdomen is bloated and tense, often in the evenings. She likes to sit on the lap but doesn't say she's in pain. She prefers looser clothing, and the duration of symptoms varies. Going to the bathroom and plenty of rest help. The stool is usually normal, occasionally flaky and yellow 'like a peeled shrimp.' She has rashes on her cheeks and upper arms. Developmentally, she's doing well, but she tends to put many things in her mouth. She has a strong will. Regarding the home situation: the parents have their own business, and it's always hard work. The future is uncertain now with work; the child is serious, and the parents think she feels the tension. How to run the business, they discuss it; father may insist. It's a lot; they have to do a lot themselves; it's difficult to find staff.
Analysis
The rubric "distention evening" suggests the possibilities of Hypericum and Osmium, both Stage 8 medicines. This makes a bell ringing. Abdominal complaints: focus on Iron series. The home situation vividly represents 3-644.24; it's about work, tackling Iron series. The situation is uncertain, fitting Phase 2. They stand firm; there's no doubt about doing or not doing, fitting Phase 4. Phase 2 is the undertone, the base, what you see, is taking responsibility, standing firm and going on, so Subphase 4. The action is hard work, much, forcing, so Stage 8. Prescription Hypericum perforatum C200.
Follow up
After five weeks things are going well; bowel movements are better, with very occasional flakiness, but color and consistency are always good now. Since taking the medicine, she has had a watery nasal discharge but is not congested. She no longer complains of pain, and there are no more rashes. She now seeks more lap time, just for a hug; she's more open, cheerful, and sociable, very active and enterprising. She has a better understanding of what she can do; sometimes she gets angry, 'that's development,' says mother matter-of-factly. There is still tension at home; it may continue; it's an issue. The symptoms remain absent in the following years.
In this example, you can see that the family situation, and the environment, can determine the medication, or possibly how the parents deal with it, which is indicative of the predisposition, the same predisposition the child also has. The theme of uncertainty (Phase 2) in a practical situation manifests in the stomach (Iron series) with hard work (Stage 8). Stool is an indication of how digestion is, pain is an other symptom, rash is mostly a reaction on the irritated mucosa.
