Region: Central and South America, tropical Africa, West Indies.
Botany: leaves extend outward from the semi-woody stems; flower reddish orange, with an apex of bright yellow, like a pineapple or pinecone shape; bracts are hard, waxy, 10 to 30 tall; up to 2 meters tall; flowers from June to September.Use: ornamental; aromatic ginger.
