A 45-year-old woman is experiencing pain in her tendons and joints. Her erythrocyte sedimentation rate is elevated. This is making her anxious. She has been to the rheumatology clinic. She is afraid of hospitals. The pain made her anxious and fearful, and she wanted to see a doctor as soon as possible.
We’re talking about her fear of failure at work: she works in financial accounting and is worried that she might have overlooked or forgotten something. As a result, she has to check everything several times, which causes her a great deal of stress.
She wakes up at 5.00 am and wonders whether she might have overlooked this or that at work. She thinks she could never do her job properly and that this might lead to sanctions for the whole company. She is afraid of being punished, of a financial audit, of going to prison. She wants to follow the rules to the letter; she has always followed the rules.
“If someone tells me to do something, I do it.” “When I was a child and was told to be home by such-and-such a time, I always was.” “I’ve always been responsible; people have always been able to rely on me.”
Mother: She had so much work to do, and Grandma lived with us too – it was brilliant. Mum and Grandma made sure we were a family.
Father: He used to work and drink; whenever I got bad marks at school (
Iron series), he’d give me a proper telling-off. If I wasn’t in bed on time, he’d tell me off. She was also afraid that her father would tell her mother or her grandmother off, and that her grandmother might have a heart attack as a result. He isn’t honest with us, because today he tells us he loves us.
In our family, we don’t talk about what went wrong or what’s still going wrong, otherwise it leads to another argument. We don’t talk about it, otherwise Mum slips into depression.
Before
Onychium japonicum I prescribed for her
Calcium carbonicum, which she took for six month. Her thyroid function returned to normal; she had been suffering from hyperthyroidism and had been diagnosed with Graves’ disease. She has lost 6 kg, taken up regular exercise, her sleep has improved and she no longer needs to take Urogestan for her ‘luteal insufficiency’.
But her problem with the rules in her work and her anxiety of making mistakes has not changed in depth.
Iron
Series: duty, obligation, work, control, routine, criticism, failure, guilt, crime, trials, being pursued, being condemned, the police;
Carbon
Series: fear of illness, low self-esteem, a trouble-ridden father;
3-000-00.00 Plant Kingdom: sensitive, loves plants and nature;
3-442.10.00
Pteridales: She is very preoccupied with control and controlling others; she is desperate to obey the rules and norms that have been imposed on her – primarily by her father. Normopathy;
3-442.16.00
Pteridoideae Phase 6: An irritable, abusive, alcoholic father, by whom she did not feel valued or loved.
3-442.16.02
Onychium japonicum Stage 2: adapting, passively adhering to rules and norms at all times;
Follow-up consultation after 3 months:She is now doing very well; she can now trust her inner voice. (The loss or denial of the inner self and the inability to connect with it, because norms and rules are considered more important than feelings, wisdom or intuition, etc.) She is no longer stressed, for example when a family trip is planned. Before, everything had to go according to plan; the times for arrival and for the destination had to be strictly adhered to – “You mustn’t be late”. Before, she had to decide everything – where, for how long, when, etc. - otherwise she would have been anxouis and nervous. Now her husband can do that; she is no longer internally tense, but can take things as they come. (Rules, norms = fern)
She doesn’t plan as much anymore; she’s no longer so strict with herself or others; she trusts her inner voice and so no longer needs to brood so much; her thoughts are light and positive. She’s no longer melancholic; she feels lighter and braver.
She had a good chat with her father; she’d never asked him before what it was like for him as a child to be seen merely as a labourer. (= Fern, functioning like a machine, enslaved)
Since taking
Onychium japonicum, she now tells her mother what she thinks and is then able to walk away and leave the matter at that. Her joint and tendon problems are much better (
Phase 6?).
She is much less irritable. When her children argue, she remains calm (Carbon
Series). She worries less about her children (Carbon
Series).
She stands up to her boss, tells him what she thinks without waiting too long and then getting snappy or annoyed (
Stage 2).
Her quality of life has risen from 40/50 to 80/90.
Interestingly, after
Onychium japonicum, I was able to perceive her lanthanide personality more clearly. For example, she spoke about the animals on the farm that lived alongside her and were not treated as living beings by the farmers. In general she expressed more her automous being.
