Ipomoea dumosa
Remedy code: 3-665.76.06.
A three-year-old girl has always had loose stools and sleep problems. Since birth, her stools have been
watery, and over time they consisted only of mucus and lumps. The pediatrician couldn’t find anything
wrong. At eight months, her diarrhea became daily again, accompanied by frequent temper tantrums,
lethargy, and fatigue. She doesn’t feel the urge to defecate, and it often happens while she is in the bath. The
stool is watery or soft, brown or black. She has little appetite. She cries throughout the night, and the cause is
unclear. She sleeps poorly, staying awake all night. When taken downstairs, she is not fussy. Putting her to
bed is not an issue; she falls asleep for an hour but then wakes up and doesn’t sleep again. She starts calling
out, and if she hears her parents still downstairs, she screams and gets upset. Her diet is lactose-free. Ferro
syrup thickened her stools somewhat and improved her sleep. The child sits shyly and quietly on her
mother’s lap. She is stubborn, sensitive, caring toward her younger brother, and aware of the people around
her. She gets upset easily if someone is angry with her and tries to make amends by cuddling. Napping in the
afternoon is not an issue. She catches every virus, often developing rashes, runny noses, and mild fevers for a
few days. When crying, she gets red blotches on her face. Her pregnancy and birth were uneventful. Her pain
threshold is high.
Analysis
Given her response to the ferro syrup, her intestinal and sleep problems seem connected directly. Beside that,
both are associated with "restlessness." Catching every virus and spiking fevers is not unusual in babies but
supports a Gold series classification. The repertory rubrics "Restless children at night" and "Shrieking, night,
children" both include Jalapa, a synonym for Ipomoea dumosa, as named previously in homeopathy. This
was confirmed by the placement of this remedy within Wonderful Plants, the precursor to Qjure.
Gold series: fever, inflammations (including intestinal).
Lanthanides (Series 6, analogous to Gold series): Known for "complaints from birth" and unexplained
inflammations.
Phase 7: overstepping boundaries, and lack of pain perception (similar to Solanaceae, can be extrapolated to
Solanales).
Phase 6: Focus on intestines, and fatigue. Years later, it emerged that during pregnancy, the mother had to
give her all and sacrifice much for the relationship.
Stage 6: forcing (by screaming).
Ipomoea dumosa (also known as Jalapa or Ipomoea purga): recognized for colic and diarrhea in children
who are well-behaved during the day but unruly at night.
Prescription: Ipomoea dumosa C200.
Follow up
After taking the remedy, her sleep became more restless for a few days, but then it improved permanently,
sleeping good whole night. By the third day, her stools normalized for the first time in her life, and she
quickly became toilet-trained. Her behavior improved, she seemed more comfortable in her behavior. After a
week, she gave up her pacifier, which had been unthinkable until now. She exuded calm and no longer
screamed for everything or persistently yelled to get her way. She now sleeps better, falls asleep quickly, and
sleeps deeply and energy was better. Her appetite has improved, and she finishes her meals. She can still be
assertive or stubborn, but her behavior is more understandable and easier to manage. A characteristic trait is
her "persistence" and having her own opinions.
