Botany: palm, to 15 metres high; habitat rainforest, full sun, regular watering, sandy soil, poorly in clayey soil; grows fast from seed; leaves ± 2 m long, almost upright from the trunk, arching gracefully outward; leaf bases arranged in three vertical columns forming a triangular shape; inflorescences from the axils of the lower leaves; flowers yellow, green; fruit round black, ± 2 cm diameter.
Use: ornamental, from its remarkable shape; fruit high nutritional value, by children and livestock; threatened by fire and the harvesting of its seeds for export.
