Name: Dicots; Dicotyledons; Dciotyledonae.
English: Double cotyledons.
Botany: 2 cotyledons, sprouting leaves.
Dicotyledons contain the majority of the Angiospermae, the flowering plants. The other group is the Monocotyldons or Lilianae.
Dicotyledons is not monophyletic. Dicots have 2 clades. The first is a primitive group consisting of the Amborellanae and Magnolianae. It is also called Early angiospermae. The second clade is more evolved group, the Eudicots, the “good” dicotyledons.
Eudicots contain the Fabanae, Malvanae and Asteranae.
In the Plant theory the Dicots are split into Magnolianae, Fabanae, Malvanae and Asteranae.
