4.2 Stage 2EssenceThis personality feels very unsure and inadequate. He doesn’t know what he is worth, what he can do. He feels shy and timid, so he remains passive and adapts to the situation. He fears what others will think of him. He is easily overwhelmed by situations or other people and feels bewildered. He just watches and feels watched at the same time. He wants to hide his fears. He wants and needs protection and support.
Unsure Shy TimidThey feel very unsure of themselves, so that they don’t dare to say or do anything. They are modest and like to stay in the background. They appear docile, even weak and cowardly. They do not dare to develop their potential, so their talent remains hidden. They have a tendency to apologise all the time.
Passive Observing AdaptingThey soon become passive, just letting all things happen around them. They give their power away and don’t even realise that they probably have just as much to offer as anyone else. They think other people are better and stronger, more outgoing and capable. They have the feeling that they know nothing and therefore don’t have the right to their own opinions and actions. They adapt easily to the opinions and rules of others, because they lack an own inner frame of reference.
Observed Criticised EvaluatingThey are sensitive to being looked at and quickly feel criticised. They feel as if other people are constantly looking at them and saying things about them. They are extremely sensitive to any comments or criticism. Other people only have to look at them or think of them and they will take it as a form of criticism. They easily feel judged, humiliated or hurt.
They feel the need to find out the value of things. They compare their own actions to other peoples’ to find out whether their own way of doing things is good or bad. They have to compare themselves to others because they don’t have their own inner frame of reference yet. They easily think they are not good enough, they see themselves negatively.
Finding their place spaceThey find it difficult to occupy their own space. Their belief is that they don’t deserve to have their place or space. They have to work hard to find and deserve their place. They quickly feel left out when they can’t make contact with someone else. Or they feel left out because they dare not show themselves to the outside world.
Protection Covering upThey have a need for protection. They tend to hide, so they won’t get criticised. Children can hide behind their mother or behind a chair.
Barium shows this strongly. They turn their head away and snuggle up to their mother. Later on these gestures become a bit more subtle, such as holding on to mother’s hand, keeping a hand before their mouth, or crossing their arms in front of their chest.
SupportThey have a great desire for support: more receiving than giving support. They can create support in the form of rigid, hard structures. But that also causes a stagnation in their development.
TwoThis is the Stage where the number two comes in: they have become conscious of a duality. It is no longer a case of one person doing something, we now have a second person who is observing the first one.
KeywordsTwo, unsure, shy, timid, support, protection, hiding, passive, adapting, observing, observed, assess, evaluate, question, place, settle, criticised, bewildered, intimidated, ridiculed, conform, cover; the preposition “ad”.

Stage 3,
Stage 4 and
Stage 5 also have the theme of timidity, irresolution and being looked at, but they are less unsure, overcoming their timidity.
Stage 6 also has the theme of hiding, but they are resolute and acting.
Beryllium looks at himself as if he is not himself.
Magnesium feels seen as inadequate by family and friends.
Calcium feels observed by his community, as an inadequate craftsman.
Strontium feels observed as an incapable artist or scientist.
Barium feels observed as a powerless leader, a weak king.
Signature
Calcium and
Strontium are elements that can turn into bone and chalk, hence the word calcifying which implies hardening. There is a similarity with the oyster who hides in his shell as soon as there is a hint of danger.
SymptomsGeneral: weak, puffy, flaccid, phlegmatic. Diseases: typhoid; scabies.
Physical: better lying on abdomen.
