Essence: afraid that others will see that he can’t prove himself: embarrassed.
Afraid that others will see that he can’t prove himself
The key word for Chromium is embarrassment. They feel observed, which is typical of the whole Iron series. And they feel ashamed, particularly when something goes wrong, and they carry on regardless. This carrying on regardless is typical of Stage 6: they have to start something or carry on with what they are doing, even if something goes wrong.
They may get very embarrassed if others can see that they are making mistakes. Or they may get embarrassed for others when they are making mistakes. They are undergoing a sort of initiation, as if they are being thrown to the wolves, and they have to get on with it, whether they like it or not.
They only have the courage to do when if others aren’t watching: discreet
Their fear of embarrassing situations makes them very discreet. They don’t show what they are doing and they don’t like to talk about mistakes, even the mistakes of others. Small mistakes may be felt as serious crimes.
They try to cover things up and ‘keeping up appearances’ is most important.
The whole theme of ‘Keeping up appearances’ is beautifully portrayed in the English television series of the same title.
As long as nobody is looking they can have a try at their task.
Eventually they might get so involved in keeping up the appearance that everything is fine that nothing else gets done.
In conversations with other people they tend to gloss over any problems or they will simply change the subject. They can talk for hours about some minor and innocent details to prevent anybody from inquiring after any possible problems.
The theme may also be expressed in desire to polish in the most literal sense of the word. Everything has to look bright and shiny.
They must do something but are afraid to fail: careful
They feel as if they are crossing a dodgy bridge for the first time, so it is best to be very careful, slowly putting one foot in front of the other, being careful not to slip.
This same kind of caution may be expressed in the way they talk. They are afraid of saying the wrong thing, so their words are carefully measured and their stories full of useless detail. They keep beating around the bush, afraid of committing a blunder.
They must prove they have the courage to take on their task
But their fear doesn’t stop them from doing what they have to do. There is no way they can get out of it, so they might as well carry on. Even if they make mistakes to start with, they can’t turn back anymore. They feel committed and they persevere once they have started.
This perseverance will become even stronger when they are challenged. If someone suggests they might not be up to the job, they suddenly become even more determined: ‘Just wait and see, I’ll show you!’
This tough and foolhardy attitude shows itself in the physical body as well, in the form of tough and sticky discharges.
Forced control
The force that is driving them on may also come from outside. Someone else may have ordered them to take on a certain task and there is no way they can get out of it.
B.A. examination
They feel put to the test, but it is only a preliminary test. They don’t have to know everything yet, but it is nevertheless their first serious trial.
