642.16.07 Anamirta cocculus, CaseCase by Alex Leupen.
Girl, 13, chronic headache.
She has had tummy aches and constipation since her sister became seriously ill and she was very affected by this. Every day she has a stitching headache in her forehead and vertex, which is ameliorated by cold and by being distracted and is worse at the end of the week. Sometimes she has a migraine, a pounding headache which is worse from walking and better for lying down. She cannot tolerate the smell of cooking at all (3); this makes her nauseous though she does not vomit. The migraine is worse from light and from noise.
As a child she was open and cheerful.
Mother says that she is a very caring child; she is helpful and empathetic. When mother had an operation she bought her flowers and made her tea. At school she is helpful, for instance with a child who walks with crutches. She tends to put herself in the background. In the past she wanted to be a nurse, these days she wants to become a doctor.
She wants to go to a higher level of school but she has difficulty with arithmetic and is not doing well at her classes.
AnalysisCocculus: caring; migraine; oversensitivity to the smells of cooking.
Follow upBoth the headaches and the tummy aches disappeared within a week after the first dose and since then she has had normal stools. After the first dose she cried for two days. She has been admitted to the school class that she wanted to attend and her mother says that she is much more emotionally robust: she no longer tries to please everyone at a great cost to herself. The headaches and tummy aches have completely gone.
