English: Lacy tree fern; Scaly tree fern; Cooper's tree fern.
Synonym: Cyathea cooperi; sometimes mislabeled Cyathea australis.
Region: Australia, in New South Wales, Queensland; naturalized in New Zealand, South Africa, Tanzania, Mascarene Islands, Azores, Madeira; invasive in Hawaii.
Habitat: hardy trunk, frosts may kill the leaves; prefers protected, shady moist conditions, can be grown in sunny areas; aversion to full sun; well watered.
Use: ornamental; commonly cultivated, easy to grow.
BotanyFern; tree, medium to large, up to 15 tall; fast growing; crown is widely spread.
Stem: 30 cm thick trunk; covered with conspicuous long, silky, straw colored scales.
Leaves: light green, rarely pale pink with an orange stripe in the middle; 4 to 6 m long;
