TaxonomyAstereae is a Tribe of the Subfamily
Asteroideae of
Asteraceae. It forms a clade together with Gnaphalieae, Calenduleae and Anthemideae. The placement of Inuleae and Plucheae is unsure, sometimes as an early diverging lineage of
Asteroideae near
Astereae, sometimes near Heliantheae in the broad sense.
In the
Plant theory Asteroideae is split in four clades Heliantheae,
Astereae, Senecioneae and Anthemideae.
Astereae is placed in
Subphase 5, together with the Subfamilies Gnaphalieae, Calenduleae, Inuleae, Plucheae. Anthemideae is split off from that clade and placed in its own
Subphase 7.
