Name: agathosma means "good fragrance".

Region: southwestern South Africa.
Habitat: lower elevation mountains; near streams in fynbos habitats.
Content: various phenolic compounds.
Use: flavoring agent; herbal remedy; essential oil for flavorings, perfume.
BotanyEvergreen, small shrubs and subshrubs; 1.5-2.5 m tall; highly aromatic.
Leaves: opposite, oval; ericoid, crowded; simple, entire; sweet-smelling; 15 to 35 mm long, 7 to 18 mm broad.
Inflorescence: terminal clusters; 0.7 to 2 cm diameter.
Flowers: white or pale pink; petals 5.
Fruit: small green; five-parted capsule; splits open to release the seeds.
