Botany: 1 genus, ± 2 species; shrubs; simple, evergreen, alternate leaves; pistil is 5 celled and the anthers dehiscing via pores and basifixed; flowers have five petals and five sepals that are distinct from each other and five stamens attached oppositely to the sepals; seeds are winged; tropical; South China to Malay Peninsula and Sumatra.
Taxonomy
Pentaphylax has often been placed in Theaceae or Ternstroemiaceae. In the Apg3 classification Ternstroemiaceae is placed in Ericales.
