Dioecious trees or shrubs, rarely climbing.
inflorescence: terminal or lateral cymose.
Leaves: exstipulate; glabrous when mature or more or less pubescent below; entire or dentate.
Flowers: separate rounded tepals borne on a very small receptacle.
Fruit: drupes; exposed by a curling outwards of the receptacle together with the tepals on its margin.
