Region: south America, Argentina, Paraguay, southern and eastern Brazil.
Habitat: understorey in semideciduous forests; alluvial soils; dappled shade of woodland; tolerates a wide range of soils and moisture levels
Semideciduous tree; narrow, dense, elongated crown; 4 to 10 metres tall; slow-growing.
Stem: cylindrical; 25 to 35cm in diameter; wood is coarse-textured, irregular-grained, moderately heavy, easy to cut, moderately durable.
Use: low quality wood for agricultural tool handles; wood for fuel.
