Harungana madagascariensis
English: Haronga; Dragon's blood tree; Orange-milk tree.
Region: South Africa to Sudan, Central African Republic, Congo, Democratic Republic of Congo, Ethiopia, Kenya, Lesotho, Madagascar, Namibia, Sierra Leone, South Africa, Sudan, Swaziland, Tanzania, and Uganda.
Habitat: evergreen forest, savanna regions; forest margins and along river banks; medium to low altitudes around 1000-1600m
Use: wood for firewood, charcoal; light wood for poles for building houses.
Botany
Tree, 25 m; red sap.
Leaves opposite, simple, ovate, glossy, ± 10 by 6 cm, underside with dense rusty stellate hairs or scales, prominent veining, numerous lateral nerves, when young brown lower surface, apex tapering, petiole ± 2 cm long; orange latex.
Flowers: small, bisexual, white or cream colored, almond scented, sepals with dark red-brownish dots; stamens fused into five bundles; ovary with dark glandular spots; stalks and calyx are covered with short rusty hairs.
