Impatiens balsamina A 55-year-old woman, she is cheerful, lively, and always listens attentively. She is very tall, always moving, fidgeting, with cheerful eyes. Her eyes turn horizontal to the right a lot when answering. She suffers from hot flashes and restlessness. The restlessness has been going on for a long time, and she is undergoing therapy for it, with lots of conversations. The hot flashes were less severe for a few weeks after
Sanguinaria canadensis,
Rosmarinus officinalis had no effect. They are not sweating fits, but she gradually becomes very warm several times a day. She also has a lot of pain in her body, joints, and osteoarthritis; painkillers help. Arms, shoulders, sometimes it feels like she has bumped it. Warmth and rest improve the pain. For a few months now, she has been waking up at night with pain in her shoulders. She then has to change position or get out of bed, and after a few minutes, it is over. Shoulders, elbows, fingers, neck: she is in a lot of pain, and it feels tense. She also has tingling fingers; she is so tired of it. She feels tension at work; she thinks she has made it her own, the restlessness and impatience. Otherwise, she feels good, her head is fresh.
Her sleep is variable: she wakes up twice a night from the pain, but she sleeps well with naproxen. She thinks a lot of herself, looking for an explanation, finds it strange, vague complaints, she can function with them, ‘do I have to accept this, am I perpetuating it myself?’. Talking about herself in a philosophical way. During the day, it is always present. She is too tense, even at home. She cannot sit still or calmly pick something up; she does everything as if someone were on her heels: ‘that's how I am’, and since the menopause, it has been much worse. ‘Give me something for inner peace’. She thinks she lacks logic; others have to point that out to her. She has a certain idea, a conviction. She has lost so many habits; her body won't cooperate.
She has always had a difficult relationship with her parents: cringing, holding back her irritation until it escalated (from childhood she was told: you do what I say, you have no right to speak, it was shocking that in recent years she realized: who am I, what do I like? As a child, she was rebellious). She no longer fits into that straitjacket; it's becoming uncomfortable. She is spontaneous and open, but also has enormous inhibitions. She now wears cheerful clothes, looking for exuberance, like her children do, which she would not have dared to do in the past. She functions normally despite all the pain, but with a firm hand: ‘ouch’. Tossing and turning, everything hurts. Once she felt an intense pulsing in her elbow. She is always on edge, in ‘ready to go’ mode.

Follow-upAfter two days, she felt calm, much to her surprise. ‘I'm completely amazed, can it happen so quickly? She now moves calmly; they say so at work, too. She sleeps better and no longer wakes up in pain. She still feels her shoulders and arms, when working in the garden, or when changing clothes, she has the feeling 'it's too tight’, but it is no longer so prominent. ‘Finally, I have peace. You want it so badly, you've been fighting it for so long, always ‘quick, quick’ to sit down again.’ Now she can calmly pack her things and not rush like a madwoman to be there a minute earlier. The hot flashes are more frequent, up to five a day. The first week after taking the remedy, she also had a kind of allergy; as soon as she got up, she started sneezing, her nose ran, and she had watery eyes. That subsided during the day at work, but started again at home. Dream: a friend of ours had died and was laid out in our house; it was sinister (she understand the explanation, death as symbol for a finishing an era). She also notices it with music; when playing, she is no longer tense, no longer worried, but just plays and talks to people. It is now relaxed, she doesn't have to make an effort, she no longer gets stressed, and she can sit relaxed. It is easier. The improvement has lasted for years.
