Botany: perennial herb; rootstock with stolons, spreading to form patches on the ground; roots orange; leaves all basal, bluish petioles, to ± 30 centimeters long, heart-shaped or kidney-shaped, with wavy, scalloped edges, greenish, with a purple tinge on the undersides; scape is blue-gray with a mauve tint; flower bud long and pointed; 70 stamens with yellow anthers; fruit a capsule ± 2 centimeters long.
Use: against snail Oncomelania hupensis, host for Schistosoma japonicum; schistosomiasis.
