Region: northern and southern hemispheres.
Habitat: temperate and subtropical zones; on soil and rock.
IntroductionDitrichaceae is a Family in Dicranales.

BotanyMoss; small to sturdy mosses.
Stem: erect.
Leaves: ovate to long awl-shaped; with strong rib occupying the entire length of the leaf; lamina cells square to rectangular, smooth or mamillose; wing cells are not differentiated.
Capsules: either have a lid or are kleistocarp; peristome is present or absent; peristome teeth are divided into two filiform, papillose branches down to the base.
Growth from: acrocarpous.
TaxonomyDitrichaceae is probably polyphyletic. In the past it was also listed as part of the Dicranaceae.
