A 40-year-old man, ten years ago experienced burnout. His concern was that he might not be able to work anymore. Last year the complaints returned, that he had been ‘walking on his toes’ for a while, it was busy at work, that was his own choice. His wife suddenly wanted a divorce, and for a short time, he felt "paralyzed," with anxious visions of the future. For the restlessness and sleep problems, he was prescribed Cypripedium.
Afterward, he took a practical approach: moving on, making good arrangements, and organizing everything properly. After taking Cypripedium, he described that "reason dominates," and he had not expected to manage so well the problems. He would prefer to throw her out of the house but lets it go, including all the anger and sadness, saying, "It’s going to be a tough year; we’ll get through it." The entire year, he had many doubts and kept ruminating, but he managed his work.
After this year, following a party, he suddenly developed a buzzing and later a ringing in his ear, causing great restlessness and panic. He read on the internet about tinnitus, the possible consequences of damage and immediately went to a private clinic for treatment with prednisone. At his request, I sent Cypripedium again.
After four weeks, he was still not back to work, worried and still troubled by the ringing: it reacts to stress— the more he thinks about it, the worse it gets. There is a small hole in the eardrum, which he finds terrible.
He also had this ringing after a whiplash injury. His face still looks anxious when he talks about it. His body still aches, and he calms the restlessness by doing nothing. His "inner voice" starts allways again, with objections: is it too early to return to work? This gives him headaches, and a burning sensation on his forehead and vertex, and the stress causes pain throughout his body. His brain then operates "at a low level," his alertness decreases, and his mind is slow, but the work itself is manageable; he works two hours daily now. As soon as something goes wrong at work or home, it causes stress and headaches. Then the ear rings more, and it can also hurt inside. Sleep: lots of rumination, waking up and then thinking about everything,
mainly destructive thoughts about what he should not have done and the poor decisions he made. This is deeply rooted, just like during the burnout when he had to build back up to work slowly.
Analysis
Phase 7 and Subphase 2 still seem to be themes (insecurity, damage, stopping work). But the panic in response to the ringing and the restlessness indicate that Cypripedium is not sufficient.
Iron series: The current main theme is his work, marked by a practical approach after the divorce and his orderly handling. "We’ll get through this" (moving forward as the only option) is known from the Fabaceae.
Violales: Reason dominates. Euphorbiaceae: anger, which is suppressed for practical reasons, repressed emotions.
Phase 3: His striving for a new balance, being stable as a father, and at work, he still has to work hard and adapt to circumstances, externally and ideally; his goal is to reach the stability of Phase 4.
Phase 6: burn out, partner problems
Stage 3: very insecure, full of doubts.
The rubric "burning forehead" points to Croton tiglium. Clarke, Materia Medica: sadness with anxiety,
loitering and avoiding, feeling he cannot think, head confused, etc.
Prescription: Croton tiglium C30
Follow-up
After a few days, he feels much better. He can start building up his work again, "I want my old life back; it worked well enough." Previously, after 20 minutes, he would feel his body, first with a tingling sensation in his head, then his body, and the ear would start lightly ringing again. Now he works a few hours without issues. In the evening, he sometimes still notices the ear. At home, he actively participates with the children again, not just watching but playing with them. He dares more now, such as visiting friends and driving. If the ear rings at the end of the week, he no longer panics or becomes restless. He no longer avoids sounds, and the inner pain has significantly decreased. After this, he resumes frequent sports and feels fine
for several years.
