In old classifications Crassulaceae has already been associated with Saxifragaceae and has been placed in the Order Saxifragales. This is the same in the Apg3 classification
In the Plant theory Crassulaceae is treated the same way. It is placed in Subphase 5 in Saxifragales.
The genus Sedum is very large and diverse grouping of species. DNA studies indicate that many of these species would be better placed within segregate genera, like Hylotelephium, Phedimus and Rhodeola. Others like Thiedens propose to place all species except Crassula into the genus Sedum.
