Name: Blysmus in Greek means a source where plant grow.
Region: Southwest and central Asia and in Europe, northern to southern Sweden and Scotland.
Habitat: sunny places; on wet, nutrient-poor to moderately nutrient-rich, limey, humid, compacted and often disturbed soil; salt-tolerant; sand, loam and clay; grassland, marshy, meadows along creeks and streams and brackish grassland, marshes, calcareous with alkaline seepage and spring bogs; sea dunes, wet dune valleys, dune meadows; along beach plains; at the foot of dykes, the edges of spring areas.
BotanyHerb; perennial; 10 to 45 cm tall; geophyte or helophyte; brushes 3 to 6, with barbs.
Stem: weakly three-sided at the top; bract usually longer than the spike.
Leaves: blade keeled, with rough top.
Inflorescence: spikelet; 5 to 12-flowered.
Flowers: flowering from may to September.
