Habitat: chalk or limestone turf and on dunes.
BotanyHerb; ± 40 cm tall; stiff, branching stems.
Leaves: glaucous, opposite, entire; upper ones perfoliate, united at the base.
Inflorescence: terminal cymes.
Flowers: bright yellow, stalked, 1–1.5 cm across; flowering June to October.
Calyx deeply divided into 6–10 linear lobes or sepals, spirally arranged, free; shorter than the corolla.
