Case by Jan Scholten.
Boy, seven years old, autism. He was diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder when he was four. It was discovered at school because he had diminished eye contact, wasn’t very social, and had difficulty making friends. He was only playing by himself, not with other children.
Medical history
His conception took a while. His parents had to try a couple of years before they conceived him. His pregnancy was absolutely fine, it was like flying. His labour was complicated and very long. It was induced by oxytocin because the water had broken. Then it became a long process. His mother had to push very hard and his umbilical cord was wrapped twice around his neck.
He was breast fed for two weeks because his mother couldn't get any more milk.
The autistic problems also started after vaccinations with Infantrix. He then stopped drinking milk and became sleepless, staying wide awake for a long time.
He had a couple of infections like bronchitis, which were treated with antibiotics.
Mind
He is very intelligent, he can do subtractions and other calculations. He likes everything about science, biology, numbers, buildings and space. He has the feeling that the Earth is a huge library, to learn different things. He is very interested in animals, planets, constellations, and space. He reads many books and absorbs them like a sponge. He watches educational movies on Youtube. He taught himself how to read and write. At two, he started playing with the alphabet and numbers. He has a photographic memory.
His speech and language was delayed but he is catching up now.
He is always positive, and happy-go-lucky. He has no outbursts of anger or meltdowns.
He prefers contact with adults.
He is stubborn and persevering and cannot accept an answer of 'no' from his parents.
He is shy.
Lately, he started understanding the humour of people.
He is not caring very much.
He likes football, golf, swimming, playing with water and Lego.
He likes to ride a bicycle and his scooter.
Contacts
He has a great relationship with his mother as well as his father. He is an only child. His grandfather is an introverted academic and he can be potentially on the autistic spectrum, but he has never been diagnosed. He also has a much older cousin in puberty from mother’s side of the family who is also diagnosed with autism.
Generals
Weather: he likes to be outside but he doesn’t like cold weather. He gets cold easily.
Desire: chicken and chicken nuggets, fish fingers, roasted meat like pork, rice, pasta, certain cooked vegetables. In general he eats only dry food; he dislikes soup and sauces or another form of liquid meal. He drinks only water and dislikes sweet drinks like juices etc.
Sleep: He didn’t sleep well during the first year, waking often from 2 am to 6 am.
AnalysisFern: autism, limited eye contact; not social; language retarded.
Iron series: intelligent.
Phase 2: no anger; shy.
The stage is probably 9 as he is a kind of whiz kid.
Prescription: 3-444.12.09,
Dryopteris erythrosora.
Follow upAfter
Dryopteris erythrosora he had a very bad initial reaction. He became physically violent towards his teachers, another child, and his parents, hitting and kicking. It happens when he gets frustrated by questions and requests from his teachers and parents. At the same time, he is emotional, anxious and crying. But he cannot articulate his emotions. He has lost his two friends. He started personifying objects, like his pencil, and said for instance "Pencil doesn't want to do this".
After two weeks of this behaviour, he calmed down and became a completely different boy. He became more open and independent. He had better contact, was more talkative, took part in conversations, and told jokes. He is more self-aware and does not want to be different and excluded. It was as if he became unblocked.
He developed a kind of influenza, with a fever from 38 to 40 degrees Celsius. He had a suffocative cough, runny nose, and was hot at night. He had no appetite and normal thirst.
After Tuberculinum he was very sensitive and weeping for two weeks, but then his speech and language ameliorated. He became more aware of the world, noticing people. He developed new food desires.
There are also aspects of
Lanthanides in his case: a kind of new-age whiz kid, with many scientific interests.
Gadolinium metallicum and
Europium carbonicum had beneficial effects but did not touch the social problems.
DiscussionIn this case the beginning aggravation is peculiar. It lasts for two weeks, much longer than normal. In the aggravation, there are symptoms peculiar to autism, like the personification of objects.
Another peculiarity of this case is the combination of lanthanide remedies and ferns. Both are known for autism.
Lanthanides retreat as they feel not understood, and more developed than most people. Ferns have more of an aspect of retardation, which is absent in
Lanthanides. But the
Polypodiales, with
Dryopteris erythrosora in them, and having
Iron series strong as expressed in the remedy code of 3-444.00.00, have the least retardation.
Polypodiales can function quite well in society, albeit with impaired social skills. They have more of an Asperger quality.
Lanthanides don't have the theme of routines and rules, which makes them very different from ferns.
