Case by Jan Scholten.
Girl, 8 years old, autism. She has seizures of varying strength and duration. They are often short attacks, which her mother calls confusion, attacks where her head gently sinks to her chest. Then she is very tense. Afterwards, she has a kind of fainting spell: she was either limp or very tense. She very often has ‘marbled’ skin during a seizure. She usually had an aura in which she sought a safe place with her parents, usually with her mother. She is very scared, grabbing them by the head with her hands as if to check if they are still there. Recently, she has started hiding under a blanket during a seizure. With it she has involuntary urination. The seizures usually occur during the day.
She developed well until she was about eight months old. Then she did not sit. At twelve months, she was only kneeling. At sixteen months, she started walking. Around 14 months of age, she was tested by a psychologist.
psychologist. The result was very poor compared to children of this age.
At eighteen months, she started losing energy, around three weeks after vaccination with
Infanrix Hexa. After some time, her head started falling on her chest every few days. When she was twenty months old, she was given three kinds of anti-epileptic drugs, and a steroid therapy that lasted four months. The medicines had no effect, so the parents dropped them. At that time, the daughter was having up to 100 seizures a day. The ketogen diet, for eight months, gave a slight improvement, but was too stressful for her; it made her constipated for up to five days.
The seizures lasted from the age of eighteen months to four years. Her parents managed to stop the seizures by giving d-ribose. The break lasted for two years. They returned after the family moved from the village to the city. This was probably also due to improper diet.
She started going to the toilet when she was four and a half years old. Earlier, she wore a nappy.
Her pregnancy was unplanned and unwanted. Her mother was embarrassed because most families have only one or two children. Her plan to have only 2 children fell apart. She felt trapped with the children in the house and she could not go to college. She wanted the pregnancy to disappear and she could be free again. She cried the whole pregnancy. They felt the marriage was over to the second child. They felt out of place in the situation, in her family and in life.
Her mother had gestational diabetes.
The delivery was a Caesarean section at week 40. The Apgar score was 10 and 10. After delivery, her mother loved her with all her heart, as did her two older sisters.
MindShe is physically very well-developed, there are no signs of illness.
Her intellectual development is at the level of a three-year-old child.
She only speaks a few words and is just starting to use speech.
She has difficulty concentrating.
She is very independent and stubborn, can show anything.
She is always on the move, running, even while eating. She likes to be driven in a car (even a few hours), cycling and even in a cart. At that time, she is calm.
She feels best in the open air, outdoors.
She always undresses, feels best naked. At kindergarten, she is dressed, but at home
she can take off her clothes at the threshold.
She loves to play in the water, loves to drip in the bath and pool. But even a drop of liquid on her clothes causes her to take off her clothes immediately. Water spilled on her body irritates her.
She is a very happy child. She is not shy at all, goes up to everyone. She likes other children especially her older sister, but she can also totally ignore other children.
There are days when it is very easy to upset her, then she gets mad, hits the cupboards, and throws everything, phones, even chairs. She screams and is unable to calm down when she doesn't get what she wants.
Body
Her belly is swollen like a balloon which is accompanied by bitterness and it is worse at full moon.
