Habitat: forest outliers, savannah country; secondary forest, evergreen rainforest; elevations from 400 to 1,200 metres.

Botany
Deciduous tree; widely spreading branches; umbrella-like crown; up to 37 metres tall.
Stem: straight, cylindrical; 120 cm diameter; thin buttresses, forming broadly triangular flanges merging gradually with the twisted widely spreading roots.
