English: Variable-leaf acmadenia; Buchu.
Genus: 33 species.
Region: South Africa, south western Cape.
Habitat: hills and limestone outcrops; requires full sun, well-drained soil, with compost and mulch; tolerate acidic soils.
Use: excellent garden plants, for coastal gardens.
BotanyDelicate looking shrub; small, compact; 40 cm high; neat and green throughout the year. Leaves: dark green; tiny; with small hairs along their edge; oil glands that emits the sweet lemony scent when touched.
Inflorescence: at the tips of the stems.
Flowers: starry pink, deep pink; sweet lemony scent when touched; many; blooming almost constant, during autumn, winter and spring; petals 5; dark pink nectar guide leading to the centre of the flower.
Pollination: by bees, butterflies.
