A 9-month-old baby; she is feisty, strong, and cheerful. She is very open; placed on the table she can watch and grab everything, maintaining good eye contact. She has had a constant coryza since birth, occasional breathing pauses, and mild reflux. Her nose is stuffy; during the day, there is a little mucus, and at night, it is thick mucus. She cannot breathe well and is therefore often awake, frustrated and angry. She wants a pacifier and has a strong need for it. In the summer, she had a period of heavy coughing; sometimes she has a productive cough. Once she had a fever for a week, and her nose was even worse than usual. Because of the reflux, she is now given thickened goat’s milk; the mother feeds her on demand, and the child already has a good rhythm. The reflux and constipation improved after osteopathy.
The pregnancy was “difficult”; before this, the mother had suffered several miscarriages at 12 weeks, so this time she received hormone and protein infusions; she frequently had flu during the pregnancy. She was emotional, was anxious, had mood swings, and was very irritable. Due to an anatomical abnormality, she had a C-section. After vaccination, the child had a slight fever; the symptoms did not change. She cannot tolerate too many stimuli, crowds, or loud noises; when she does, she starts screaming. The mother also had sleep problems before she was pregnant. This is her second child; she is naturally busy. The parents are self-employed.
AnalysisNotable is the child’s alertness, clarity, and interest in the world; the mother also allows her to fully participate in the world even before she can stand or walk. Resistance seems good; the nose is a characteristic problem area (alertness and nose are characteristics of heart energy in TCM, corresponding Rosales, see article).
3-644.60.00 Rosales: nasal area, alertness, sleep problems, mental activity.
3-644.61.00 Rosaceae, Phase 1: The mother had mood swings, was irritable, and had anxieties.
Run Q-search within filters 3-644.60.00 (Rosales) using the keyword “obstruction” (which suggests Agrimonia as a possibility; based on personal experience, this plant fits Stage 7). The keyword “anxiety” suggests Sanguisorba officinalis as a possibility, placed at Stage 6, so 3-644.61.06.
Stage 6 aligns with the opportunism of both mother and child.
Sanguisorba: intense, overstimulated, bothered by loud noises, very interested in the outside world, independent.
Prescription: Sanguisorba officinalis MK.
Follow-upAfter two days, her nose is clear, and she no longer has any complaints; she had a cold after three weeks, but no longer has a stuffy nose, colds and the flu are going around at daycare. The firt three weeks, her sleep is still not good; she wakes up a few times a night, so from then on she starts sleeping separately. She is still startled by loud noises. After this weeks, there are no complaints anymore.
