Serpentines
Synonym: Serpentine subgroup.

Name: from the Latin "serpens", "snake", in allusion to the mottled green appearance.
Chemical: D3[Si2O5](OH)4D = Mg, Fe, Ni, Mn, Al, Z.
Crystal: trioctahedral.
Mineralogy
Serpentines have divalent cations dominating in octahedrally coordinated sites.
The most common species are all Mg-dominant: lizardite, chrysotile and antigorite.
