Family
English: Thick-leaved stonecrop.
Region: Europe, Germany to Spain, east to Romania, Bulgaria and Greece; west Asia, Turkey; N. Africa - Morocco, Algeria, Tunisia.
Habitat: not very cold-hardy plant, tolerating temperatures down to around -8°c when dormant; prefers moist, but well-drained, fairly fertile soil in a sunny position; very drought tolerant; poor, dry soils.
Content: caffeic acid, cyanogenic glycoside, ferulic acid, flavonols, flavonoid glycosides, isoflavones.
Ecology: often specially targeted by slugs; immune to the predations of rabbits.
Use: food, edible leaves; in green roofs.
BotanyHerb; evergreen; perennial; forming dense cushion; 3 to 12 cm tall.
Stem: numerous, branching; horizontal or erect.
Flowers: white, streaked pink.
Pollination: by insects.
