A man of 35 years of age had multiple sclerosis diagnosed 3 years ago. It started with blindness in his right eye, which repeated itself several times both right and left. Repeatedly he has numbness on the left side of his face and body, worse from warmth. He has paralysis of the right arm and leg. This gives problems with walking, he staggers and needs to hold the handrail or his walking stick. Some 9 years ago he already had minor symptoms like exhaustion and numbness. Every year he has four attacks, sometimes worse from discussions with his parents. He has cough with coryza and a blind left eye, worse from discussion and problems with his parents. It was treated with cortisone, which gave some relief, but then he developed coordination problems and staggering. Betaferon, a kind of interferon, caused aggravations of the paralysis of his legs and the numbness of his feet. Since that event he was treated with prednisolon. This gave relief, but also produced staggering, coordination problems, and the feeling of standing beside his own body.
He had a happy childhood. His father was a teacher, but didn't have the opportunity of a good career. So his parents gave him a good education. He studied biology, as both his father and he wanted him to do so. His father was authoritarian, insisting on iron discipline, but was nervous with friends. They were like strangers in the neighbourhood.
As a student he was impressed by Gandhi. Study of the Bible convinced him that everything is vanity, except the gospels. He was very touched by prayer and became almost a fundamentalist. He started to work for a spiritual group that was fighting poverty in the slums of France. There he felt at home, living among the homeless. It became his yardstick: live your religiosity by working. His parents had very little connection with church or religion. They were very much against his work in France, because of the low salary and status. They quarreled with him about it. It was his first personal choice in life.
In the group he met his girlfriend, a student of theology. She considered the group as of minor importance in her life and wanted to go back to her home country. He joined her. But that was far reaching as he longed for the spiritual group. He lost all perspective, felt bad, became cramped and started clenching his teeth till some of them broke. He couldn't express his emotions. Later they moved to another country, where he worked as a teacher. A week after moving, his blindness started.
His parents were also against his marriage with his girlfriend, the more so because he took on the name of his wife. He says "Emancipation is an important thing and I'm most happy for it work both ways". They didn't attend his marriage, only an uncle came. With these conflicts his parents fell from their pedestal, they weren’t infallible anymore. The contact with them became difficult and fatiguing. He had to relax after a weekend with them.
He withdraws from discussion, because of he feels too tired. In particular the ever-repeating discussions with his parents about the religious group were though. They lasted for years and never evolved to any acceptance or insight.

FamilyHis grandmother on his father's side died from cancer. His father was 13 and because the church didn't help he turned away from church.
His mother's father was a tyrant. Her parents were against her marriage, so she ran away from home then.
He’s thin, with trembling fingers. His voice is pinched and trembling.

Aversion: meat (out of consideration with animals).

AnalysisThe trouble started after quarrels with his parents about his decision to join the religious group. This was his first independent decision. The joining is a start, indicating
Stage 4. The fact that it was his first decision is also
Stage 4. The fact that it was his own decision indicates the
Lanthanides, just as the fact that it was a spiritual group. The multiple sclerosis, as an auto-immune disease, also indicates the
Lanthanides.
Thus we come to
Cerium.
He is very sympathetic, fighting poverty. This is a strong theme of
Phosphorus.
The whole theme of
Cerium phosphoricum can be seen in:

Follow upAfter
Cerium phosphoricum MK he did very well. Soon the attacks became less frequent and subsequently disappeared. Most symptoms improved considerably or disappeared altogether.
On year and regular repetitions of the remedy later he has virtually no symptoms of the MS anymore and he feels he's still improving. His quality of life was raised from 50 to 80.
Phosphorus was his first experience with homeopathy; it triggered asthmatic attacks, which he had never experienced before. This took away his scepticism; he concluded that if homeopathy could produce aggravations then it works and could be of help to him.
Praseodymium phosphoricum, which was given in the nine months prior to
Cerium phosphoricum mitigated the symptoms during and in between the attacks, but did not take them away. He needed little or no prednisolon anymore.
Natrum muriaticum 12K, Arteria media cerebri D5 and Cinnamonum homaccord gave relief of the MS for a while.
