A man of 40 years of age comes with arthritis. It’s mostly in the hands, but also in the shoulders, feet and jaws. His joints are thick and swollen. They are painful, especially from motion, such as rolling a cigarette. It’s not influenced by warmth, cold, pressure or massage. The rheumatism factors are slightly raised. He has suffered from it for 20 years. The first few years it was very bad, then it was reasonable for about 16 years. It started from the problems he had with his mother. His father was a warm person doing a lot with the children. At the age of 11 his father died. His mother then wanted consolation from him. He had to sleep in his mother's bed and she manipulated him into incest. He did not say anything but had the feeling this is not right, that it was evil. It felt like emotional blackmail and manipulation. She gave, but then wanted a lot in return. In the beginning he was thinking that he could help her. But when he gave a little, she "chopped off“ his fingers, his whole hands. She blackmailed him also with suicide. His mother was an unstable person who drank too much alcohol. She was frequently in psychiatric hospitals. He feels ashamed about his mother. His mother humiliates people and so his son is afraid of her. He has stored the problems away, but the idea remains that behind the door there’s still a little devil. When he had children himself, he feared that he would have incest with them, although he had no inclination to it. He blames his mother that she created all the shit. He often thinks that he is a bad person through being egotistical and using other people.
The arthritis has been worse the last 2 years. It arose from a conflict with his manager which gave him a lot of stress. It felt very unfair, like the situation with his mother. He was working as a hospital nurse. When he saw an advertisement for a nursing trainer in the newspaper, he changed jobs. It is difficult for him to relax. He is very serious, loyal and trustworthy. He can be lazy. He’s not the one for instant action, not the first one to stand on the ice. He first watches what is going on. He has learnt to say no.

AnalysisThe arthritis as an auto-immune disease points to
Lanthanides. The feeling of being evil strongly indicates
Thulium. This is even clearer from the situation: he lost (
Stage 15) control over himself (
Lanthanides), he couldn't decide what to do in life. The tension adds to the
Lanthanides theme.
Thulium is confirmed by the dreams of swimming in the black water and seeing nothing. Also the little devil behind the door is a
Thulium theme.
Muriaticum seems the first choice as a salt, due to the mother problems. But the problem was not about caring, but about being abused and manipulated. This is confirmed by his expression of “chopped off his fingers, his whole hand”; the shit the mother created; the feeling of being treated unfairly; the being left alone by his father; arthritis; lazy. The color preference 15 CD fits with
Thulium.
In total: he gave up (
Stage 15) his autonomy (
Lanthanides) because he was blackmailed (Oxygen).
DD Rhus toxicodendron: dominated at home.DD Dysprosium muriaticum: fighting with the mother.
