Region: South Africa, Namibia.
Habitat: prefers full sun, tolerates partly shade; need well-drained soil; tolerant of heat and cold.
BotanyShrub; erect; robust; 2.5 m tall.
Stem: caudiciform; well branched; 40 cm diameter; bark yellow, peeling; fleshy, brittle, greyish green when young.
Leaves: grass green; on the apex of growing tips; elliptic; 9 cm long, 4 cm wide; deciduous.
Inflorescence: upright racemes; branched.
Flowers: tubular; 2 cm long; orange-yellow to red; blooming late spring to mid summer.
