TaxonomyIn the Apg3 classification Styphelioideae is a subfamily in the Ericaceae. Styphelioideae corresponds mostly with the old family Epacridaceae. Epacridaceae was included in Ericaceae as DNA research showed that Vaccinioideae are more closely related to the Styphelioideae, Epacridaceae, than to other Ericaceae.
In the Plant theory Styphelioideae is placed in Subphase 5 in Ericales.
