Names: Naupaka Kahakai = Devotion.
English: Beach Naupaka; Lobelia Naupaka; Hailstones; Fan flower.
Use: flower garlands.

Botany: beach plant; tropical and subtropical; Pacific and Indian Ocean; soft rounded, smooth and shiny fleshy leaves; white flowers, fragrant aroma; fruits white berries; spreads directly by sea, seeds remain fertile for many years.
Culture
Hawaiian story of a couple on the beach, in dispute; the girl tore a Naupaka flower in her anger and urged him to bring her a new, full bloom; but God turned all the flowers into half and it was impossible to find a complete flower; the boy reached in vain and died of a broken heart.
